BREAKING NEWS
Sara Sharif's father attacked in prison after being jailed for murdering 10-year-old
Urfan Sharif, who was jailed last month for the murder of his 10-year-old daughter Sara Sharif, has been attacked in Belmarsh Prison.

Urfan Sharif
He is understood to have suffered slashes to his face and body, requiring stitches.
He received local care inside prison.
A Prison Service spokesperson said "Police are investigating an assault on a prisoner at HMP Belmarsh on 1 January.
"It would be inappropriate to comment further while they investigate."
Sharif and Sara's stepmother, Beinash Batool, were jailed for life in December for years of horrific "torture" and "despicable" abuse that culminated in the 10-year-old's murder.
The court heard that she suffered "unimaginable pain, misery and anxiety" as she was repeatedly beaten, burned, bitten and restrained at the family home in Woking, Surrey.

Sara Sharif
Sharif was handed a minimum term of 40 years and Batool was given 33 years.
Sara's uncle, Faisal Malik, 29, who was found guilty of causing or allowing her death, was jailed for 16 years.
In a televised sentencing at the Old Bailey, Mr Justice Cavanagh said Sara's death "was the culmination of years of neglect, frequent assaults and what can only be described as torture", mainly at the hands of Sharif.
The senior judge said her "despicable treatment" took place in "plain sight and in front of the rest of the family".
He told Sharif: "You treated her in such a way because you considered it your right to impose harsh discipline on her.
"Sara was a brave, feisty and spirited child. She was not submissive as you wanted her to be. She stood up to you."

Myth: Crime rates always increase during economic recessions. | Fact: The relationship between economic downturns and crime rates is far more complex than it seems. Take the Great Recession (2007–2009) in the United States |
for example. Many expected crime rates to soar, but FBI data revealed a surprising trend: violent crime fell by 15.4%, and property crime dropped by 17.7%.
So, why didn’t crime rise as predicted? Experts point to factors like improved policing strategies, community outreach programs, and advancements in security technology. This example highlights that while economic hardships can strain society, they don’t automatically lead to a surge in criminal activity.

Stay Safe Online by Strengthening Your Passwords
Your online security is only as strong as your weakest password. Make sure to use unique passwords for each account, and incorporate a mix of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Avoid using easily guessable information like birthdays or pet names.
Consider using a password manager to securely store and generate strong passwords. Taking these small steps can make it significantly harder for hackers to access your personal information. Stay vigilant and protect yourself!
Crime Statistic of the Week
In the United States, there are currently over 230,000 unsolved cold cases,
with around 6,000 new cases being added to that number every year. A cold case is a crime that remains unsolved for an extended period, often due to a lack of leads or evidence. Despite groundbreaking advancements in forensic science, such as DNA analysis and facial recognition technology, the clearance rate for homicides has dropped dramatically from approximately 90% in the 1960s to less than 65% today.
This decline raises questions about resource allocation, police staffing, and the increasing complexity of modern crimes. Some cases fall through the cracks as law enforcement agencies juggle mounting workloads and limited budgets.
However, there is hope: efforts like improved community-police partnerships, crowd-sourced investigations, and the application of new forensic techniques, such as genetic genealogy, are breathing new life into cold cases. These approaches have already led to the resolution of numerous cases that were thought to be unsolvable. It’s a sobering reminder of the persistence needed to seek justice for victims and their families.
