BREAKING NEWS
school stabbing victim named as 15-year-old Harvey Willgoose
A 15-year-old boy has been arrested after police were called to All Saints Catholic High School in the city at 12.17pm.

Teenager Fatally Stabbed at Sheffield School Identified as Harvey Willgoose
Sheffield is mourning the tragic loss of 15-year-old Harvey Willgoose, who was fatally stabbed at All Saints Catholic High School on Monday afternoon. Emergency services rushed to the scene following reports of a violent attack, but despite paramedics' best efforts, the teenager succumbed to his injuries.
South Yorkshire Police confirmed that another 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody as investigations continue.
Emergency Response and School Lockdown
The incident unfolded at 12:17 pm when police were called to the school on Granville Road. Upon arrival, officers found Harvey with life-threatening injuries. Medics battled to save him, but he was pronounced dead shortly after.
In response to the attack, All Saints Catholic High School was placed on an immediate lockdown, with students and staff kept inside as authorities secured the area. Parents were alerted, and many rushed to the school gates in distress.
Speaking outside the South Yorkshire Police headquarters, Assistant Chief Constable Lindsey Butterfield expressed the force’s condolences:
"It is with great sadness that I share with you today that a teenager has lost his life following a stabbing at a Sheffield school. Our thoughts are with the boy’s family, his friends, and the entire school community."
Police have reassured the public that officers will remain at the scene and in the surrounding area to provide support and security for students, parents, and residents.

An Outpouring of Grief and Growing Concerns
Since the news broke, tributes have poured in for Harvey, with classmates and members of the local community gathering outside the school to lay flowers, balloons, and heartfelt messages at the gates. Social media has been flooded with expressions of sorrow, with many describing Harvey as a kind and well-liked student who had his whole future ahead of him.
The school had already experienced a lockdown incident just days earlier, on 29 January, due to an altercation between students involving threats of violence. Although this previous event was resolved without injury, it has raised serious concerns about student safety on campus.
National Figures React: Calls for Answers
The devastating incident has prompted a national response, with leaders calling for urgent action to address knife crime in schools.
Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer extended his condolences to Harvey’s family and the wider community, acknowledging the deep sorrow surrounding the tragedy:
"The whole country mourns with them. A young boy went to school today and didn’t return home. We must do all we can to prevent such heartbreaking losses in the future."
Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson also expressed her devastation, promising government support for the school and the affected community.
Sheffield Heeley MP Louise Haigh has called for a full investigation into how such an attack could have occurred, stating:
"A criminal investigation is now underway, but serious questions will have to be answered about how this could have happened. I will be working closely with the school, police, and council to ensure accountability."
South Yorkshire Mayor Oliver Coppard echoed similar concerns, highlighting the alarming issue of knife crime:
"The vast majority of young people do not carry knives, but one instance of knife crime is one too many. The consequences, as we have seen today, are utterly devastating."

A Plea for Respect and Caution Online
As the investigation continues, authorities have urged the public to avoid sharing distressing footage or speculation on social media, which could cause additional pain for Harvey’s grieving family and hinder the police inquiry.
Assistant Chief Constable Butterfield addressed this issue directly:
"We urge you to be mindful that there are loved ones at the centre of this tragedy. They are grieving the profound loss of a teenage boy in the most devastating circumstances. Please avoid speculation and refrain from sharing content that could be distressing or detrimental to the investigation."

Ongoing Investigation and Community Support
Detectives are currently working to piece together the events leading up to the attack, interviewing students, staff, and witnesses. Forensic teams have also been collecting evidence inside the school, which remains partially cordoned off.
Granville Road has been closed between the tram stop and Fitzwalter Road, with police urging the public to avoid the area while emergency services complete their work.
Anyone with information or footage related to the incident is encouraged to come forward and assist the investigation.
As Sheffield grapples with this tragedy, the focus remains on supporting Harvey’s family, ensuring justice is served, and addressing the wider concerns of violence among young people.

Myth: Serial killers are more common today than in the past. | Fact: The number of active serial killers has actually declined significantly since the 1980s. |
At its peak in the late 20th century, the FBI estimated there were hundreds of active serial killers in the U.S. However, advancements in forensic science, DNA analysis, and improved law enforcement techniques have drastically reduced their numbers. In recent years, serial killings account for less than 1% of all homicides, making them far less common than the media might suggest.
While high-profile cases still capture public attention, the reality is that modern investigative tools have made it much harder for serial offenders to evade capture.

The Power of Statement Analysis in Solving Crimes
Words matter—sometimes more than people realise. Investigators use statement analysis to detect deception and uncover hidden clues in a suspect’s words. This technique focuses on subtle changes in language, unnecessary details, and missing information that might indicate a lie.
Take the case of Susan Smith, who reported that a carjacker had kidnapped her two young sons. While pleading for their return, she made a telling slip—referring to her children in the past tense. Investigators picked up on this, among other inconsistencies, leading to the devastating truth: she had drowned her own children.
The takeaway? The way people describe events can be just as revealing as the evidence itself. Whether in high-profile investigations or everyday interrogations, analysing speech patterns can expose deception and lead to justice.

Crime Statistic of the Week
More Than 80% of Homicides Involve a Firearm in the U.S.
Gun violence remains a dominant factor in homicide rates across the United States. According to FBI data, more than 80% of homicides involve a firearm, making guns the most common weapon used in deadly crimes. This statistic highlights the devastating role of firearms in violent crime and the ongoing debates surrounding gun control, self-defense laws, and crime prevention strategies.

Nipsey Hussle
The Case of Nipsey Hussle
One high-profile example is the tragic murder of rapper and activist Nipsey Hussle in 2019. He was shot multiple times outside his store in Los Angeles by someone he knew—Eric Holder, a former acquaintance. The case underscored not only the dangers of firearm violence but also how personal disputes can escalate into deadly confrontations when guns are involved.
This statistic is a sobering reminder of how prevalent firearm-related homicides are in violent crime. Whether through illegal firearms, domestic disputes, or gang-related incidents, the impact of guns on crime rates continues to be a pressing issue in criminal investigations and public safety discussions.
